T lymphocyte dynamics in acute and chronic viral infection
A two-day international workshop, organised by the Infectious Disease Research Network, Imperial College London, St Georges University of London, University of Tennessee, University Medical Center Utrecht and the British Society of Immunology.
Date: Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 January 2011

CPD approval has been applied for through the Royal College of Pathologists.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists working in the area of T cell immunology, both experimental and theoretical, to discuss recent advances in our understanding of how T cells control acute and chronic infections. Numbers of participants will be deliberately limited in order to facilitate informal discussions.
The meeting will focus on the adaptive immune response to acute and chronic infections. We aim to bring together scientists and clinicians involved in quantifying the dynamics of T cell responses in acute and chronic viral infections. One of the major themes that we would like to bring to the discussion table is why some infections are cleared from the host while other infections persist, and how can we tip the balance towards clearance or better control of otherwise persistent infection? How important are anti-viral T lymphocyte responses, and what is their contribution to pathogenesis and protection?
The main goals of the meeting will be:
· to bring together researchers and clinicians from a variety of backgrounds to discuss the importance of T cell responses in the control of acute and chronic infections
· to encourage inter-disciplinary (specifically mathematics and immunology) cross-fertilisation of ideas
· to identify key areas for future research and encourage collaborative working in these areas
Organisation and scientific committee
The meeting is being organised by the Infectious Disease Research Network, with academic input and construction of programme by - Becca Asquith (Imperial College London, UK), Jose Borghans (University of Utrecht, Netherlands), Vitaly Ganusov (University of Tennessee, USA) and Derek Macallan (St Georges University of London, UK)
